Colors: Blue in fashion

Without doubt blue is one of the most popular colours, favourite of men and women alike. It is a subtle colour which has various shades, some of which known by the names baby blue, azure, navy, cobalt, indigo, sky blue, cyan, royal and midnight blue. Blue is widely encountered in nature – it is the colour of the sky, the sea and hundreds of different flowers. Blue is above all a calming colour, it is light and seems to fit any situation and occasion.

Blue has a strong symbolism. It is associated with religion and ceremonies, as well as with royal affairs. It conveys confidence, importance and class. Light and dark blue are popular colours in the corporate world, worn at any office and workplace. Blue is usually associated with calmness, serenity and tranquility. In Western bridal traditions it symbolizes love and it’s an important element in weddings.

In menswear: When it comes to menswear, blue is perhaps the most universal colour, a true staple in a man’s wardrobe. It is a safe colour which complements the man’s style in just about any of its shades. It shows class, masculinity and power. The classic dark blue suit, the navy blazer and the blue jeans are just a few of the timeless blue pieces of wear.

In women’s wear: Blue is just as popular. It pairs well with black, beige, yellow, orange and some shades of red. Blue is a versatile colour which can be dressed up and down. Blue is great for accessories too – scarves, belts, bags, hats. Pick one major blue element and build the rest of your outfit around it.
